Exquisite Ajolote wood sculpture by Oaxacan wood carving artist Anel Shunashi. The painting of the axolotl is absolutely magnificent Axolotls are not really fish but salamanders and are almost extinct. Mexico is working on conserving through axolotl shelters and conserving potential habitats for the salamanders.   Anel is a young engineering student who has a unique and very attractive painting style.  The intricate design has gorgeous coloring and even the underside of the salamander is delicately painted.
