Angel Matias: Beautiful Xolo Woodcarving

Magnificent Xolo dog woodcarving by Oaxaca alebrije artist Angel Matias. This sculpture is beautifully carved and the painting is gorgeous. The painting of the dog is beautiful, precise, and well-designed. It features two different colored designs representing night and day. The Xoloitzcuintle, or Xolo, is a Mexican hairless dog. Its name comes from the Aztec god Xolotl, the god of fire and lightning. Dogs were believed to be spiritual protectors of the human soul.
